Coloring Books

There is a brand new hobby sweeping the nation. It is... Adult Coloring! Coloring books made for adults. I have taken to the new hobby and so has the rest of my family. We go shopping at Michael's and will look at the coloring book in the section for hours. Trying to pick the right coloring book is a difficult task. You want to pick the right coloring book that you feel you will be able to complete without having difficulties. In addition, when shopping you want to pick the right coloring materials to use. I use Crayola colored pencils and Sharpie ultra thin markers to color my coloring book pictures. Coloring can be a great stress reliever. When something is bothering you, it is great to sit down and color to distract your thoughts and help you focus on the picture you are coloring.

Common Noun: a noun denoting a class of objects or a concept as opposed to a particular individual.

Three Activities:
1. Fold a piece of paper in half. Create two lists on the paper, Proper Nouns and Common Nouns. Then, write as many proper nouns and common nouns you can think of in the two columns.
2. Write a paragraph using common and proper nouns. Highlight the proper nouns in yellow and highlight the common nouns in pink.
3. Create a poster to describe the two types of nouns. You can create two different posters or have the two topics on the same poster.

  1. I love the grammar activities that you have included.

I saw a coloring book on fashions from 1870-1980 or a similar date range. I wanted to buy it more from the fashion standpoint than from a love of coloring. I think coloring has taken the place of handiwork like embroidery and needlepoint.
